The Oppenheimer Collection

HomePublicationsThe Oppenheimer Collection

5583762 sIn an extraordinary gesture more than 15 years ago, Marti and Tony Oppenheimer decided to found the Oppenheimer Collection at Johns  Community College In reaching this decision, they acted upon their passion for contemporary art, their history of arts philanthropy, and their belief in a remarkable community college in Kansas.

When Marti and Tony met and married in 1992, it was a union of shared passions for art, especially the works of living artists. It was also during this period that they approached the college with the idea of creating a n outdoor sculpture park for the campus

Overview

Marti Oppenheimer, daughter of Floriene and George Lieberman (a Johnson County real estate developer), grew up in a household which cultivated an appreciation of the arts. Likewise, tony Oppenheimer, son of Brigadier General H.L. Oppenheimer and Sally Oppenheimer, and grandson of legendary MCA (Universal Studios) founder Jules Stein and his wife Doris, was raised in an atmosphere which endorsed culture and creativity in daily life. And so, both Oppenheimer's were drawn to the arts early in their lives and careers.

When Marti and Tony met and married in 1992, it was a union of shared passions for art, especially the works of living artists. It was also during this period that they approached the college with the idea of creating a n outdoor sculpture park for the campus. An initial grant request tot he Jules and Doris Stein Foundation, Los Angeles, culminated in a significant gift to pursue works for JCC.
